CUMULUS: The Art of Meteorology

June 29 – September 28, 2024

Opening Reception: Saturday, June 29

CUMULUS: The Art of Meteorology is an international juried art exhibition at Coconino Center for the Arts in Flagstaff, Arizona. CUMULUS explores the processes and phenomena of the atmosphere, through art. This exhibition coincides with the Southwest U.S. summer monsoon season to celebrate the iconographic regional weather patterns, while including national and global meteorological perspectives on weather in a rapidly changing climate.

We are honored to announce co-curator legendary Flagstaff meteorologist Lee Born; and three renowned artist jurors: Shonto Begay (Flagstaff, AZ), Christine Cassano (Santa Fe, NM), and Jaewook Lee (Flagstaff, AZ); who selected artwork from an international pool of submissions. $2500 in jurors’ awards will be announced at the opening reception.

2023: March 21 - April 27, Charlyn Gallery, Truman State University.

In Land Enveloped, shapes from mountains, fishnets, and iceberg striations come together in layers of fabric that hang from the ceiling and form pliable walls. These walls create a dynamic path where narrow passageways open to expansive and translucent views through silk organza. This project creates a sense of discovery and magic that is inspired by Lindsey Dunnagan’s childhood memories of growing up in the Alaskan landscape. This project was sponsored in part by a grant from the Puffin Foundation Ltd and Truman State University.
